    Hobo

    Hey All:

Toronto boy who has been a Triumph fan a LONG time. As a matter of fact, I have been trying to find the single Hobo which was cut before Rik joined. Have no idea what it sounds like, but would LOVE to hear it. Maybe if the Boys still have it floating around, they can put it on the web site.

Anybody have it? What are the lyrics? What is the "B" side? Who played guitar? Any history? Been looking for this since I heard about it when Progressions of Power came out.

    Look forward to replies.

    Hello,

The song Hobo is on a bootleg called "Live At Canada Jam". The sound quality is very good. You can find it on ebay. I think one is for sale now. Good luck.

The "B" side is a song called "Got to Get You Back in My Life", which featured lead vocals sung my Mike! A very good song, too, in my opinion. Hobo is good too, and has a nice solo in it... almost sounds a little like Rik on it. The original guitarist.. I have the name at home, but can't think of it right at this second. I know that if anyone here has a copy of "Triumph - The Book" (with the glossy red cover), there is a photo in there of the original contract for the Sep/75 gig at Simcoe HS, and the original guitarists name appears on the contract, but is scratched out in favor of Rik (so the change at guitar happened shortly before that show).

Its interesting to note, that through my research of the early years of Triumph, that 'Hobo' actually achieved a moderate level of success on local Toronto radio, and particularly at campus radio in the Toronto/eastern Ontario region. Of course it was only released as a 45 single, and from what I've seen/heard, it was mainly distributed to booking agents, club owners, high school principals, etc. A few have survived to this day. Rarely have I seen it on ebay, or anywhere (maybe I have seen two for sale in my life). I myself own an original 45 copy. About a year ago, yeah, someone had the idea to stick on one of the bootlegs that has been making the rounds. I was not aware that the current version of the Canada Jam boot now included it, but its completely possible of course.

By the way, I would strongly encourage people NOT to go on ebay and buy bootlegs there. First of all, I'm sure there are plenty of fans on here (myself included) who would be more than happy to simply trade a copy of it to you, or "sell" it to you for the cost of the CD and postage or something... I hate these jerks on ebay that make big money by profiting off bootleg sales. And most of the shows they are selling now are well saturated amongst the fans, so its easy to find most anything. Especially with these message boards which will better connect us fans!

    Re: Hobo

Anybody have this song that can be posted so we can hear it? Been looking for it for almost 25 years and (although will probably be disappointed after anticipating it for so long), would love to hear it.

    Thanks

Man I hope you haven't built it up too much in your mind, it really sucks to be let down after you had all these thoughts of grandeur. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. unsure.gif

    2 very early Triumph songs

Does anyone, possibly our Canadian friends know if Gil, Mike and Rik by themselves performed 2 singles by Triumph (Hobo and Got To Get You Back In My Life). Does Gil sing both songs? It sounds it to me. And does Rik play guitar on both. Got To Get You Back In My Life sounds like intro to Hold On. Hobo was written by a another person according to a credit. Gil is credited to have written (Got To Get...) This was way back in 1975.

Both these tracks are pre-Rik I believe ... and speaking of things you might not believe ... it was Mike singing lead on Got To Get You Back Into My Life ... Mike's Attic contacts brought these songs to the public and Triumph was born ...

Keep an eye on ebay for the "live at the Canada Jam" CD. Both tunes are on it.

I would like to hear that as well, kinda wish that Mike would have sang a tune or two with Triumph, then you could say all 3 guys sang in the band

Can't you feel the magic, feel it everywhere, Can't you hear the music, there's something in the air, There's a celebration, deep within a song, Celebrate this feeling, you know it can't be wrong
