Back to underrated guitar players...
John Sykes (Thin Lizzy, Blue Murder, Whitesnake) fantastic player!!!
Alex Lifeson You guys should know who he is! lol! So many people get caught up in Neil and Geddy's playing they kinda forget about Alex and how good he actually is.
+1 on Sykes, I liked Blue Murder alot

I like his Whitesnake stuff, killer riffs written there. Plus the guy is one of the faster alternate pickers at 15 notes per second...that one surprised me since I thought he was more of a tapper when it came to playing fast. Sykesy kinda got lost after WS, Blue Murder didnt catch on...interesting-he almost ended up in Triumph, the guys pursued him after Rik left...would have been interesting...
I think Jake E Lee is a bit under-rated since he sorta disappeared off the face of the earth since his Badlands days. I know he's had a couple records but nothing that ever gets mentioned. Badlands was a very underrated band, I love Ray Gillen's vocals...awesome blues hard rock/metal!
+1 on Jake E Lee. I loved Badlands. I liked his work with Ozzy as well.
Jon Finn don't know if you guys ever heard of him. He's a teacher at Berklee in Boston. He's of Steve Morse and Paul Gilbert caliber player.

Agree with a lot of the previous posts so I won't list any of those here
John Petrucci - Dream Theater (this guy can shred...but also can play ANYTHING and does...very, very effortless when he plays...reminds me a lot of watching Rik play live).
Michael Romeo - Symphony X (another guy that can shred...also another effortless player...sometimes gets to wrapped up in production during the making of a CD though...latest CD wasn't raw enough).
Gary Hoey (yeah I know it's surfer music but this guy has tremendous talent)
Tony MacAlpine (with all he can do on the guitar AND do the classical piano stuff on top of it...amazing in my book).
Will probably add more later so this isn't as long as an encyclopedia.
