    Rocklahoma

Awesome show.  Love the cartoon face on the screen at the beginning with "I'm BAAAACK, rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated."

A few completely random observations, please comment -

    1.  Sound board guy/gal s*cked all day long, all bands.  Vocals kept coming in and out.  From my vantage point, bass notes on Blinding created an annoying hum.

     2. Did I mention that the sound board mixer guys s*cked?

    3.  Camera guy putting concert images of Triumph on the big screens didn't have a clue, it was all over the place.  At one point, we had images of the concession stand row on the video screen while Triumph was playing.

    4.  Did you notice how far off in the sky Triumph's laser travelled?

    5.  Rik & Dave had an AWESOME guitar exchange in Rocky Mtn.

    6.  LOVE the new ending on Machine.

    7.  Is Gary "We're not gonna do a nostalgia show for y'all" Cherone of Extreme arrogant or what?  Roughly translated, f-y'all and what you wanna hear, we'll play what we want.

    8.  In the general admission area, Triumph started losing audience to the parking lot about halfway through.  Their loss.

    9.  Liked the shirts one party had - "we came from (Canadian flag picture) to see (Triumph logo)"

    10.  From a general admission viewpoint, side stages were annoying.  They started doing audible sound checks while the main stage act was still performing.  Don't know if this could be heard in the reserved seats too.

    Re: Rocklahoma

I forgot point number 11 - when they tour next year (if they don't, this was the biggest tease in rock and roll history), do NOT miss it.  Quit your job, do what you need to do to get to a show.

Hopefully some of today's younger bands will watch, learn and take notes, while Triumph schools them on how it's done.

    Rocklahoma Story

First of all its Sunday morning and still tired.

My wife and I stayed in the same hotel with the band. It was surreal at times because throughout the days b4 the show, you would see one of the guy's( or all).

The same thing your walking down the hall and see Mike walking back down the other way or Rik Emmett/Dave Dunlap going to breakfast.

I was fortunate in getting rehearsal passes the day b4. They played a small bar venue (Cain's Ballroom, historic site for Tulsa) and they sounded awesome..

I really had a bad view for the concert, upstairs and behind the stage. I have alot of pictures I am not sure how there going to look yet.( drank a lot of beer, didn't help them either)

The concert was great and the sound was pretty good. There was times of some feedback and cuts.I don't think it was the soundguy's issue.I am actually going to enjoy the You Tube Stuff. You better watch it while it's there the show was video taped for a DVD( I suspect it will be removed)

I met a lot of people but not anybody from our site.

I have more and will add as I remember more.

    Rocklahoma

Triumph kicked ass at Rocklahoma! I am making this post before reading any other posts so I don't get influenced or upset at someone else's comments. It's quite likely I will cover something that has already been posted, for that I apologize in advance. I will begin by giving just the boring details and then give some opinions. Triumph kicked-off their set at 11:30 p.m. CDT and played until 12:54 a.m. Within that span of time they played: When the Lights Go Down Lay it on the Line Allied Forces Never Surrender Rocky Mountain Way Blinding (Midsummer's Daydream) Light Show Hold On I Live for the Weekend Magic Power Rock & Roll Machine Fight the Good Fight The band sounded great! I thought that tuning the guitars down one whole tone would sound like hell; I was happy to be wrong. From my seat, as well as from the photo alley, the mix sounded great. I compare this to some of the earlier bands on the main stage who sounded fine from front and center but a little weak from my seat (a lawn chair on the north/ left side of the crowd. Some of the early acts' sound was affected by a fairly strong wind. I was pleased with the set list, but like most any fan, I always want more. I've heard that an entertainer is supposed to always leave the crowd wanting more I do want more but I completely enjoyed what the band delivered. It was really cool to see Rik play as many guitars as he did. I read on one of these posts that he only played Les Pauls in Sweden. He played the black Les Paul, the white Dean Flying-V, the Gibson double neck, and the acoustic 12 string. As a guitar player I love to see a good part of another player's collection. I guess I'm somewhat used to seeing Mike in hockey jerseys. I thought the Oklahoma Sooners jersey was a cool touch as he banged out the bass notes. A little public relations directed toward the hometown population was a slick idea. Sticking with the football lingo, there was one fumble during the show. Rik botched the first verse lyrics in Fight the Good Fight but quickly recovered the loose ball and scored the winning touchdown. Rik and Gil both sounded great throughout the show and Dunlop gave some really nice backing vocals and some subtle electric guitar in the background during Rik's performance of Hold On. I will conclude with just a few more observations before I go to work. I guess I've never cared much for a disco ball but that ball added to some cool lighting was an awesome touch to Blinding Light Show. The explosions at the end of When the Lights Go Down and at the end of the show were cool. The lasers just past the halfway point also added some visual excitement. The visual is fun but the music is what it's all about. Triumph delivered so I say THANK YOU! This was a fantastic show and I truly hope just one of many more to come. I will post some pictures in a couple of days.

    Re: Rocklahoma

Yes, something was wrong with the sound all day, from the lawn area.  Maybe it was just the wind, not really sure.  Let me ask this - from the seats up front, did you pick up the low-pitched humming during the bass notes in Blinding Light?  It was really loud in the lawn, drowning out the music.

    Re: Rocklahoma

During Blinding Light Show I was in my lawn seat and didn't hear the humming to which you refer. I am generally quite critical of someone's sound and I have a pretty good ear. Maybe I was just so damn excited that I didn't notice. Neither of my buddies noticed it either, but they were a bit intoxicated. I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful than that.

    More Rocklahoma

I must give a huge THANK YOU to the band for putting on a great show. I drove from Denver with a couple of buddies to see the show. We all had great expectations of the Triumph performance and the day at the show. Sometimes, high hopes lead to big let downs. I am very pleased to say that the band met and exceeded my expectations. I also want to give thanks to the very cute girl who was kind enough to use my camera to photograph my ugly mug in front of the Triumph banner just minutes before the set began. The people of Oklahoma were very nice hosts for the couple of days I visited -- so thank you. Now I have just a few random thoughts about Friday's show. I was not very familiar with the music of Armored Saint. They put on a good show and became the most pleasant surprise. XYZ probably filled the proper time slot. I'm not a fan of Kingdom Come but they sounded quite good. Living Colour put on a good show. If Corey Glover could shut up and sing, their set would have been better. "It's too hot," especially when you wear a t-shirt over a sweatshirt. "Gas prices this" and "George Bush that." SHUT UP AND SING. Vernon Reid sure shreds on that guitar though -- good show. Extreme...ly too late a time slot. Gary Cherone certainly thinks he is important doesn't he? Nuno Bettencourt is a very talented guitarist and is probably deserving of a better band than the one he is in. Nuno was the only performer on the main stage all day to acknowledge and pay respect to any of the other bands. He recognized Night Ranger and Triumph. Thank you Nuno. Finally, while not being anywhere close to one of my favorite bands, I have seen Night Ranger several times over the years. Their Rocklahoma performance was the best that I have ever seen. Jack Blades is a very strong front-man and the duo of Brad Gillis and Joel Hockstra on the guitars was great. I loved the event from 10:00 a.m. Friday until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday. I met many nice folks from all over the country who were excited to see Triumph as well as the other bands. I look forward to my next Triumph show and to next year's Rocklahoma. Until we meet again, Hold on to your dreams, fight the good fight, and never surrender.

How did XYZ sound? I'm a huge fan, but have no idea what they would sound like live after like 15 years of seeing a live performance of them(from youtube of course).

Referring to item # 9, i'm the one with my 2 friends that were wearing those shirts !!!!!  A lot of people on friday came to talk to us because of those shirts !!!  (A lot of TRIUMPH fans and some that said they suck...)  Oh well, those people were probably there for shitty bands like Pretty Boy Floyd or Enuff Z Nuff.

My impression on the show cannot be described in words......  Holy #%$@ !!!!!!   When the first song started, i was glued to my seat.  I think at that point i still couldn't realize that i was finally there.  (note that i never got the chance to see them before, just saw Rik about 10 times).  Finally towards the end of the song, i got up and Lay it on the line started.   I then moved a few rows forward so the other two guys wouldn't see me drop a few tears.....  I really got emotional at that point.  Then, it happened again for Allied Forces.  Seeing Gil sing and having a great time made me cry again....  My buddies noticed the few glitches, but i didn't, i was in another world for 1 hour and a half !!!!   Great show, will never forget it, was worth all the money to fly there.  The rest of the festival was also good, but friday night at 23h30 was the best time !!!!  I am now hoping for a tour next year !!!!  I also got the 2 shirts at the concert.  If they had more, i would have got them all !!!!!

And ZEBRA rocked too !!!   My first time seeing them, they didn't make me cry, but i was really impressed with them !!!

I would have been the same boat on the emotion side.............

My eyes watered up a bit at the rehearsal the day b4 and got most of it out then.

as far as Oklahoma, not a big following there.

    But Triumph Rocked.................
