Reunited Canadian rockers Triumph have added Dave Dunlop from frontman Rik Emmett's Strung-Out Troubadours project to play second guitar for Triumph's forthcoming shows, including next month's Sweden Rock Festival.
Rik Emmett (vocals, guitars), Mike Levine (bass, keyboards) and Gil Moore (vocals, drums) were destined for stardom when they formed the Canadian hard-rock trio Triumph in 1975. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1976 by Attic Records and quickly reached gold status. On the strength of the group's non-stop touring schedule throughout Canada and the USA, Triumph had rapidly built a large and loyal fan base.
Triumph is scheduled to perform at Sweden Rock 2008 in Sölvesborg, Sweden on Saturday, June 7th and on Friday July 11th at Rocklahoma.
kinda figured that would happen
I wonder how Dave gets along with the guys, he probably has no idea whats going on with some of the stories they tell, but the same can be said with Rik and Dave since they've been playing together for a long time as well.
was kinda hopeing it would just be the three of them but oh well.maybe they'll do some stuff live like headed for nowhere hold on (the non accoustic version) and some other stuff they would need a second guitarist for.any wayLET'S FIRE UP THE ROCK'N'ROLL MACHINE.

I think you hit the nail on the head
Luvers666:Any person who believes that a band does not include other musicians on their tours are brainless. Every band always has those 'silent silent partners' playing in the back.
The "brainless" comment was uncalled for, in my opinion. You could have found a more tactful way to state that other musicians are used, without resorting to that. Those types of comments are childish and don't have a place among constructive discussion.

Well, my two cents on this is that those of you who don't think Dave should be playing at all or be "seen" on stage, you're missing out. He's a phenomenal guitarist, an excellent backup vocalist and has a great stage presence...his chemistry with Rik is outstanding, both musically and visually.
I'm sure Gil and Mike very quickly realized what a valuable asset Dave is when they began rehearsing last month. If they didn't think having Dave along was a major enhancement to the show, they obviously wouldn't do it. I think I have a little more faith in their opinions than mine or yours. Plus, the Triumph songs just sound better and fuller with a second guitar, not to mention the added backup vocals. Not like Rik only plays one guitar part on the studio albums...lotta layers to those tunes.
Yeah, I loved the raw power of the original trio, but I've seen Rik wtih Dave about 6 times and it absolutely rocks, and I also really dug the SOK tour with Santers on board. So I'm looking forward to it, and I think if you're lucky enough to catch one of the Triumph shows with Dave Dunlop, you'll change your thinking.
I agree..in the old days it was just the 3 of them. I saw them way back ..there were no silent partners and they did'nt need them. I'm sure alot of bands do have extra musicians helping them out at concerts but I don't beleive that every band out there does. I think you are exaggerating abit and are somewhat insulting to the bands out there. And I agree that the 'brainless' comment was not called for and was childish. Out of all the people on here that post comments I'm surprised that these type of comments would come from Luvers666. I would've thought she was better than that.
I can understand previous comments about just wanting it to be the three of them. That's what they were in the old days. That would make it a true reunion. But at the same time I can understand them wanting Dave in there. It would definitely inhance the show. I have no problem with him being there with them. He is a great musician and would be a real asset to them. I wonder if they even considered Santers or where he is now. Personally, I think Dave is the better choice. In the end, it really doesn't matter to me whether it's just the 3 of them or they have back up...it'll be just great to have them together and playing again. It's still great to see Triumph back even if it's only for a couple of concerts. I just hope they have a dvd on the concert for those of us that can't afford to go.
Im trying to keep an open mind about the second guitarist. In my little mind I think I prefer an actual additional musican then to have them sync'd with a digital track. I'll take live over memorex, but thats just me.
No matter how you look at it, we are in a better place then we were a year ago. Its great to actually have this stuff to debate about.

If so, please name them.-signed "brainless"
I too am brainless and saw no need for that comment either, very condescending
