    Iron Maiden

Was anyone at the Iron Maiden concert on March 16th at the ACC in Toronto??? My dad and I were there and thought it was amazing, as did everyone else. The crowd was really into it. Everyone was singing along to practically every song. The band was great also. Bruce can still scream his head off and run around the stage like a maniac. The rest of the band seemed to be in really good shape as well.  The best was at the end of the show when Janick Gers was swinging his guitar around like crazy, throws it toward the audience and catches it by the strap pulling it back towards him. Another thing I found interesting was the band that opened for them. People were booing them because it wasn't Iron Maiden, and it was actually Lauren Harris the daughter of Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris. The music was amazing but Lauren's girly voice didn't really suit the music to well. Kinda sounded like Madonna singing heavy metal, lol.... well it wasn't that bad. In the end, it was the best concert I had ever been too, and they are a great example of a band that gets better with age. Any thoughts?

....seen iron maiden back in....ahem '84 with twisted sister opening... around the time when twisted was riding the wagon of huge popularity from their cheesy videos and anthems of 'were not gonna take it'....the performance between the two bands was strikingly huge....akin to comparing a band playing real instruments vs. a band playing 'rock band'...probably explains why one band is still recording and touring and another plies his trade on a radio show

Sorry, but I'd have to disagree with you on this one. I think Twisted Sister was and still is a great band. They aren't anywhere close to Iron Maiden, but their cheesy videos are hilarious and I laugh whenever I see them. They just did their last album last year and even though it was a Christmas album, which I admit is kinda cheesy for a rock band, the music was pretty good. Also, I think Dee Snider is one of the smartest guys in the music business, especially since he said Rik is one of the greatest guitarists ever. I have a lot of respect for Twisted Sister as they were another one of those rare bands who didn't get caught up in the whole stupid sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle. They were just a bunch of guys looking to have fun and joke around in form of their music. We all have our own opinions, and I respect yours, so I'm not trying to say your wrong or anything. Just don't want you to get the wrong impretion. We're all friends here on this board and should be all pumped up that the Rock and Roll Machine is back in full force!!!

...none taken, and if you can't express opinion why hace a Board...i was generalizing on the whole band...i agree that dee is an articulate guy with plenty to say and appears to have his head on right...but as a band on that night opening for maiden the backing members couldn't play a lick...they were off key, not in sync and not just for 1 song or 2...the whole set...i have no problem with a band finding a schtick to lay their hat on but i was trying to convey that as, in a backass way i guess, that maiden came off as full on musicians - their playing, their music, performance, etc.....twisted came off as riding their schtick but without the full backing of substance behind it ...i guess to get to your initial query....maiden rock as a live act, no doubt

Iron Maiden is a rock machine ( not to be confused with a rock and roll machine, we know who they are)

They built their reputation by touring and touring and again touring.

In the beginning they didn't get much airplay (U.S that is) but would get headline gigs.

The young kids loved em ( I feel like grandpa tellin stories now).

And know still they can tour all over the world and sell out arena's.

They release GH packages over and over (different versions live and studio)

They are truly a rock business, but still to this day entertain their fans.

I have seen Maiden in 1986 and 2000 and they were great both times.

I haven't seen Iron Maiden since the 80s. They just announced they are coming to my city--Regina- in June (it's been probably close to 20 yrs since they've been here)  and I am looking forward to it. After reading this I'm looking forward to it even more. I did see them twice, I think, way back in the day but well the eighties are abit foggy in my memory. Too much ganga and beer lol I do remember seeing them when scorpions and I believe it was girlschool was on the bill with them. Great show. But that was a long time ago. Looking forward to some new memories.

I wish I could share your opinion of Twisted Sister. But I've always thought of them as a bubble gum metal band with not much to offer except one good song.   But they can be redeemed from that somewhat because I think Dee is very smart and hilarious. I saw him on the documentary Metal: A headbangers' journey and his smarts impressed me. But alot of what you say is probably true. They did'nt get caught up in that crap and they were just guys having fun. I can respect that but don't care to listen to them much. They just did'nt do anything for me.

...is that because todays rock shows don't bring on the full concert spectacle like bands from the 80's did..
back then maiden had a big rig, scorps, leppard, floyd did as well, and of course triumph who reigned supreme...today, is it more about the music, saving money (big live shows cost $$), or don't care and as a result the young kids get all excited when they see some of the 80's live icons play with their massive lights, stage, flashpots, etc..

    Re: Iron Maiden

I saw Maiden in '83, what a great show. They get 50% credit for my poor hearing now (Priest gets the other 50%). I was surprised they aren't playing Detroit, hopefully they will add more dates. I'd love to see them again. I think it's hilarious that Bruce is piloting this beast for the tour, saw a piece about it on the news the other night too. They ripped half the seats out so they could carry all the gear......
