FIGHTER
Underrated Guitar Players? THAT IS EASY1) CRISS OLIVA2) Glenn Tipton3) Rik Emmett(The Man Who Invented The Shred)Those would be my top three picks
Gary Richrath...REO
Mick Jones....Foreigner
Derry Geehan....Honeymoon Suite
There are so many.....How about overated
Page....Clapton....Beck....Richards......
I'm not sure how much credit he gets with the "guitarist" crowd but I'm sure its a lot, just havent heard him mentioned anywhere else....Jason Becker was an amazing guitarist before ALS...in highschool when he was 17 he was playing Black Star by Yngwie with no problem-fooling around when he did it too, like playing with his arm under his leg...too bad he got ALS we all missed out because of that
here's a link to that youtube vid

To each their own, allied... everyone has their own opinion, but Page, Beck and Clapton over-rated???
They are three of the most revered guitarists in rock history... and IMO, rightly so.
I totally agree with Clapton, never liked him, except for the Cream stuff, pretty unoriginal!
Back to underrated......Does anyone listed to Gordie Johnson? He rocked with Big Sugar and now he rocks with Grady.
I dont know for me its sorta weird probably compared to most people's opinions, I think Page did some good stuff, but not great-probably because I listen to a lot of different guys that I like more, but I think he sort of laid down the foundation of a lot what I listen to though, he influenced a lot of guys-and I just like what they did more than his actual work...Clapton with Cream was good, and I havent heard enough of Jeff Beck to make a point about him...
just throw this one out there...Mladen has done some cool stuff
alliedforces:Page, maybe I can take him off the list he did do some really good stuff in the studio but he sucked live as did plant..Clapton is boring and what the hell did beck ever do ?..as for Richards he died 25 years ago.........sorry he just forgot to lay down !!!!!
I've got a Led Zeppelin DVD, with two or three different concerts from late 70s. If you ever saw that, you might change your mind about their live performances. The Song Remains the Same, I can say that sucked, very ordinary concert, almost bad.
Clapton: he's not among my personal fabvouritess but millions of guitaroists would disagree with ya. Oh well, it all just opinion, no one is truly wrong or right.
Keith Richards... I lol at your "25 years ago" line. I never considered him a great guitarist, but he's good in terms of creating on it.
Brent Doerner (Helix)
Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme)
It'll sound funny, but I'd say Ted Nugent is pretty under-rated, at least these days. His mouth tends to overshadow his guitar-playing and has for many, many years. But he's incredible (and for the past dozen or so years, his band is usually just a trio, meaning that Ted's doing all the guitar work.
Hunter
Neal Schon
When he was in Santana, he was the best guitarist in the band. His work with Journey is outstanding, and his rendition of Whiter Shade of Pale with Sammy Hagar( in HSAS) was a work of art. I think a lot of people tend to forget just how great he is, because of the band he is most associated with.

I love his stuff with Hardline!! some really crunchy sounding cool riffs with them, much heavier than the Journey stuff...great band, too bad grunge had taken over by the time they got their first album out
