Raidercop:The Dolphins perfect 17-0 season. Does anyone remember who snapped that winning streak in '73? The Raiders! The Dolphins won two consecutive Super Bowls, in '72 & '73. Does anyone remember who knocked them out of the playoffs in the '74 season, in the greatest game ever played? The Raiders!I know, I know. But when your team has one of the worst W/L records in Pro Sports, not just the NFL, over the past five years, you're kinda forced to live in the past.

The Snake! Stabler to Belitnikof (spelling?), who could forget?
Not specific to any team anyone here might own...was it really better in the past, or is it just the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia?

When the NFL apologized after the game that 'late hit' call on Ray Hamilton was obviously a blown call and cost New England a trip to the Super Bowl, yes they would have beat Pittsburgh. They did earlier in the season and scored more points against them than any other team.

You mean the 'Snow Job'? That was the blown call of all blown calls. I understand interpreting the rule of forward motion of the arm. But, the ball was reseeded back into Brady's left hand after the pump fake. The 'throwing motion' was over. He was holding the ball in two hands, hit by Biekert, fumbled, recovered by Woodson. Plain and simple.
As for the '76 game, I know I watched it and I remember thinking the Raiders got lucky to come out of that with a win. But after the 'Immaculate Deception' and prior to the 'Snow Job', ya gotta cut us a break somewhere. Actually, New England was right on par with the Raiders that year. The Raiders went 13-1 in the regular season, losing only at New England, 48-17.

Luvers666: thunderdawg:They didn't lose because they were "forced to fall apart" or because they tanked it.... they lost because the Giants got in Tommy Boy's face all game long. The G-Men's front 7 obliterated the Pats' vaunted O-line, Pretty Boy Brady couldn't pick apart defenses like he did all year... ball game, end of story. NY actually could have beaten them worse... they had a couple of awful trips to the red zone where they didn't get any points. And why did Belichick go for it on 4th and 13 when he coulda kicked a FG from 48 yards (in perfect weather conditions), the dummy... very costly brain cramp by the supposed 'genius'.Too bad, so sad. I laughed out loud.It is easy to question a coach's decision in a game, especially if it has a direct effect on the outcome, but I learned not to question Bill in his second year with Cleveland.I do not question his decision to go for it for one simple reason:Stephen Gostowski had two kickoffs by that point, the first was not his best and the second went out of bounds, giving the Giants the ball at their own 40 yard line, both from the same direction. My suspicion grew from the fact that everyone KNEW the Giants defensive line was damned good and that they would be able to put pressure on Brady, but had one of the weakest secondaries. Him and the receivers should have been able to pick the Giants secondary apart, no matter how good the D-Line played. They had did it against much better defenses in the league all year only to fail when all the experienced guys knew it was time to be best? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

1st of all, when a D-line gets as much pressure as the Giants did, no QB can be successful.
As for the 4th and 13 decision, hindsight is 20/20, but the kickoffs shouldn't be a factor. A 48-yard FG isn't a chip shot, but if an NFL kicker doesn't have enough leg for that distance, he doesn't belong in the league..
That FG would have been huge, obviously. Bill screwed it up IMO, but I will say he's a great coach. No one can argue that. Other than that, luvers666 please don't tell me you actually think the Pats tanked the Super Bowl.

Yes the field goal Could have been decisive, I'll give you that. No I don't think the Pats tanked the Super Bowl, I believe the NFL knew they could get a bigger draw with the story of the 'underdog' prevailing in the end. Especially since they are trying to branch overseas, too many of the 'rigged' sights point to the obvious, and the ultimate display show of disrespect and non-sportsmanship by the Giants afterwards is just sickening...

Plain and simple.Well the ball had not yet touched his body again, that is when the throwing motion is over. I remember watching that game with my friend who is a Bucs fan and he still to this day calls it a 'fumble'. I was pissed when they called it a fumble, figured it was over but then just as Gil Santos ruled it was under review, I remembered the 1980 Divisional Playoff Game with the Oakland Raiders against the Cleveland Browns. Brian Sipes arm was moving forward when the ball was knocked out and it can be argued that it touched the ground and not the players leg, which caused the deflection and the interception. But not to argue about the fumble, the one thing that always bothered me about Raiders fan with that game was this. Okay so maybe it was a fumble, but the Raiders still had to stop them and could not do it in the fourth quarter or overtime.Bucs fans don't care because had Oakland won, they would have beaten the Steelers and then the Super Bowl and Jon Gruden would have remained there, and the Bucs would still be without a Super Bowl victory.
Your right, the Raiders still had opportunity to win that game. But, by then, the air had been let out of the balloon. Ya just knew, after that play, the outcome was already decided.
