The NFL has a rule stating that it is ILLEGAL to videotape another teams signal callers during the game.

Now you may ask, okay so that is cheating.....right?

NO - The rule was NEVER in place until September 13th 2007, four days later, thus not making it a 'cheating' situation.

According to the following article, the rule was in place when the offense occurred, and a September 2006 memo from Ray Anderson clarified the point:

I'm a Pats fan, but I'm not reading anything into it other than they got beat, and they did cheat-thats what they were trying to do, and they did it.

Buuuut...out of the interviews I saw with other players, no one was surprised, and most hinted that the Pats were just the ones that got caught.  Every team I'm sure does whatever they can to try to gain an edge.  I honestly dont think the singals they taped gave them any great advantage.  Look what they did after they were caught and stopped-exactly what they were doing before they did.

I kinda put that one on the D-coordinator, it was a pretty dumb defense to put Hobbs out there 1 on 1 with Burress who is just a much bigger person, that jump ball would have been thrown 99% of the time because thats all that Manning does under pressure...throw it to Burress...

I don't really get too attached to football, baseball is more my thing.  Even then, unless I'm playing, I don't get too worked up about it.  On the other hand, that rough stretch for the Brewers in August was hard to watch!

Then it strengthens my claim even more, do you know how many teams have 'videotaped' over the years. I have watched football for 35 years and I've seen cameras at games on TV and ones I've attended.

I can honesty say that with all the 'fixation' of professional sports and my utter dislike for how the team was forced to fall apart to help the league ratings, my interest in football has dropped by the thousands.

Maybe that will wear off but as of right now I am finding more enjoyment in the idea of being tortured with Soap Opera's or Insurance Seminars, than listening/reading people of little education comment on a sport they know nothing about.

I'm kidding, of course. Surely there are plenty of Rhodes Scholars who lost big in the think-tank office pool a couple days ago.

Well, I grew up on Johnny Unitas, then Fran Tarkenton and Terry Bradshaw. Those days are clearly long gone, and I lost interest well before end-zone dances became popular. Maybe the reason "Spygate" has drawn so much attention from folks who don't otherwise follow football (which includes me these days) is that a cheatin' heart still sells newspapers.

Anyone else remember Super Bowl VII? How about those last two minutes, as a perfect season hung in the balance? Garo Yepremian, yikes!

They didn't lose because they were "forced to fall apart" or because they tanked it.... they lost because the Giants got in Tommy Boy's face all game long.

The G-Men's front 7 obliterated the Pats' vaunted O-line, Pretty Boy Brady couldn't pick apart defences like he did all year... ball game, end of story.

NY actually could have beaten them worse... they had a couple of awful trips to the red zone where they didn't get any points. And why did Belichick go for it on 4th and 13 when he coulda kicked a FG from 48 yards (in perfect weather conditions), the dummy... very costly brain cramp by the supposed 'genius'.

Too bad, so sad. I laughed out loud.

the Packers O-Line handled NY's front 7 well, and I thought it was a very poorly called game, waaaay too conservative in the 2nd half.  Brett was like 9-16 for 21 yards or something stupid like that.  It was just not pretty.  I still dont think Manning is any good...thats just my opinion.  He's a very average quarterback.  Its kinda like the Ravens winning with Dilfer playing quarterback, defense and running game did it.

It is easy to question a coach's decision in a game, especially if it has a direct effect on the outcome, but I learned not to question Bill in his second year with Cleveland.

I do not question his decision to go for it for one simple reason:

Stephen Gostowski had two kickoffs by that point, the first was not his best and the second went out of bounds, giving the Giants the ball at their own 40 yard line, both from the same direction.

My suspicion grew from the fact that everyone KNEW the Giants defensive line was damned good and that they would be able to put pressure on Brady, but had one of the weakest secondaries. Him and the receivers should have been able to pick the Giants secondary apart, no matter how good the D-Line played. They had did it against much better defenses in the league all year only to fail when all the experienced guys knew it was time to be best? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I remember it since it was the first one I ever watched, I didn't remember all the details when I watched it cause I was only five. I just liked how it was a ruthless dogfight and the score was so low, when all year it had been high-scoring affairs. My brother was all excited when Jim Kiick made it 14-0, he wanted the Dolphins to win big, still talks about it to this day.

Yeah, it was an odd mix of nerve-wracking and a little boring because of the minimal scoring. I was rooting for the Redskins, so it was also disappointing. My brother loved the Dolphins, and we watched the game with our miniature plastic football helmets facing each other on top of the TV. It was a little weird because the mini Redskins helmet was the yellow one with an R in the circle, and they had changed to the brick-red helmet with the Indian face. After the game, it was The Wonderful World of Disney. I think it was a movie with Kim Richards in it. Strange how one remembers all those little details.

If I had thought the most recent Super Bowl was going to come down to the last couple minutes, I might have watched. Live and learn.

The Dolphins perfect 17-0 season.  Does anyone remember who snapped that winning streak in '73?  The Raiders!  The Dolphins won two consecutive Super Bowls, in '72 & '73.  Does anyone remember who knocked them out of the playoffs in the '74 season, in the greatest game ever played?  The Raiders!

I know, I know.  But when your team has one of the worst W/L records in Pro Sports, not just the NFL, over the past five years, you're kinda forced to live in the past.
