Well, I started off playing a squire bullet and it only cost $99. I do not reconmend getting a squire because they are very cheap, and mine broke down pretty fast. I've heard that Shecter makes some decent guitars for a good price.

    Re: Guitars

I got a guitar today, its a Cort M200, its a cool metallic red color, not sure how special of a guitar that is, got it used, along with a Crate amp-which was 25 bucks because the normal sound doesnt always work, the distortion always does though, and if the guy paid someone to fix it he would have had to sell it for more...so I got that for 25...and if you turn it down a little(clear setting) it works just fine, so I kinda got a steal with that I think...a guitar stand, guitar strap...and a dvd so I can make use of the purchases I made, I guess I'm not too worried about getting something too expensive, I dont want to sink too much money into it and end up not wanting to play, I can always get a better guitar/amp if I want to...so thats what I'm starting with

    Re: Guitars

I ended up getting the wrong video, I need the basics one yet...got the one that was the next step...so it shows like power chords and stuff, but I dont know all the normal chords, so I'll have to try to find something that would teach those...or just take lessons, not sure what I'm going to do-both maybe? donno, need a job if I'm going to take lessons-unless I can get them free from a history teacher at my school that I've been giving a lot of cd's and dvd's to lol, his favorite band is REO...and I've let him borrow an REO dvd for like the last week and a half-he's a big Kevin Cronin fan, and his name is Korey Coonen, and his brother's name is Kevin Connen lol...anyway he plays and maybe he'd give me lessons-if he has time, I'm keeping my options open since I'm a bit strapped for money after that lol

Ben take a few lessons or find a friend that plays, at least in the begining. This will help you get started properly without picking up bad habbits. You'll probably learn quicker too

    Re: Guitars

yeah, I kinda plan on doing that, always harder to break habits than it is to make them...better to just do it right to begin with, I found out that I can hook the amp up to the speakers in my room...which is cool..and here's a picture of the guitar...its from google not the actual one I bought...

    Re: Guitars

Man, this thread makes me feel bad. I havn't picked up my axe in a very long time. I still have my '84 Kramer Pacer and Marshall 4x12 cab, with a 150 watt head. It's one loud mutha, that's for sure. I also have a nice acoustic guitar that I don't play as well.

That's some expensive dust collectors right there. I'll try and clean me' up and take a pic sometime soon, and post them.

    Re: Guitars

Just out of curiosity, what type of guitar strings do you guys use?

I use 9 guage ernie ball for my ibanez and 10 guage ernie ball for my telecaster. And if anyone is curios about my Framus, it is supposed to arrive this Thursday.

    Re: Guitars

I use GHS Boomers LOW SET GB-LOW (011-053) on my 62 Strat to get the Stevie Ray tone, John Pearse Phosphor Bronze Light Gauge (012-053) on my Taylor acoustic, and D'Addario Pro Arte EJ46C (0285-046) Composite Hard on my classical.  Very pleased with all these strings.  A side note -- I was having trouble with my classical staying in tune, described the trouble to Rik on his website and he suggested the D'Addario Composites.  Haven't had any trouble since......

    Re: Guitars

I let my membership to Rik's site expire a little over a year ago, but at the time I think there were some young people on there.  Of course everybody is young compared to me.  You wouldn't be the only young person over there though.

    Re: Guitars

Here you go Drew, sorry for the delay in pictures but I had to wait until I got a digital camera.  As you can tell, I don't know how to use it very good yet -- what does it take to get sharp, in focus pictures, this is a 5.0 megapixel camera???  Anyway, here is my gear:

    Guitars:
    Alvarez MC90C Classical
    '62 Fender Strat
    '03 Taylor 600 Spec

    Amps:
    Fender DeVille 4X10
    Fender Acoustasonic Junior

And of course, 3 out of 4 of my favorite DVD's  ( "One Night in Cinci" is out on loan ).

    Re: Guitars

I guess somebody is going to have to guide me through the steps of posting a photo.  I have the photo saved to my desktop but can't seem to get it added to my posts.  I drag it to my post and all seems good, but when I hit the post button the image does not appear.
