Re: Q107 top 500 calssic rock songs

well I took a look and when I saw Zep was 2 of the first 3 I kinda gave up on that list...

another one of the most generic lists of classic rock songs they could think of, I think Zep was in the top 100 like 10 times...oh well I've given up on that crap, most of what I listen to isnt on the radio

Can't you feel the magic, feel it everywhere, Can't you hear the music, there's something in the air, There's a celebration, deep within a song, Celebrate this feeling, you know it can't be wrong

Im not surprised theres alot of Zeppelin in the top of the list, like it or not Zeppelin was and still is huge, its a fact of life. On one of my guitar related sites the most hits come from the following words

    #1 Jimmy Page

    #2 Jimi Hendrix

#3&4 toggle between David Gilmour and Eric Clapton

Van Halen shows up in spikes

I know Zeppelin was/is big, but I know that out of ALL the classic rock bands out there, that there are more songs that could fit in the top 100 than all those listed by Zeppelin.  I knew that fricken Stairway to Heaven would be number one before opening it up...

Sure they're big, but if you're going to make a list...why make it the same as every other one thats out there?  It doesnt make sense-they could have just said "see rollingstone best rock songs list" and it would have been the same.  I just wish they would get more original...

I hear you but all the stations are playing the same tape in a loop. :) Everyday I hear 1 of 2 Bad Company songs on my way home from work....every single day. Coincidence?

BTW Im not disagreeing with you.

It's good to see that Triumph has 3 songs on that list. Yes Better than most lists I've seen.

Ben I would suggest checking your local college radio station. Often that's where you will get to hear the less commercial bands.

    Congratulations Triumph

April Wine was on there quite a few times...pretty cool, AW rocks, surprising that Iron Butterfly's In A Gadda Da Vida isnt on there, that one was a huge song back in the day, and I definatly consider that heavy metal.  Big distortion on the guitar, cool riff...jam out for a while...strong vocals.  No Aldo Nova either-thought the Canadian station would have like Fantasy on there or maybe Ball and Chain...

Re: Q107 top 500 classic rock songs

These lists are usually compiled by listener votes so I think it's more a reflection of the listeners than the station.? Q107 just did a top 50 vocalists and guess who was #1 ? Robert Plant. I voted for Ian Gillan, Gil Moore and Brian Vollmer. 2 of my 3 weren't even on the list. Drag. I think some people get in a rut and vote for the same old same old. I personally think Gil Moore is WAAAY under-rated. Great dynamics.

I saw April Wine a couple of years back at a motorcycle rally in Picton ON. and to be quite truthful, they stunk. My opinion though. Myles Goodwin looks 148 years old but I guess we can't stop the clock, eh ? Saw them again at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto shorly after and they were much better. This was with Deep Purple (Steve Morse is a guitar gawd), Mountain and a band called Tricky Woo. (?)

I like the song Fantasy by Aldo Nova but it sure seems like a rip-off of Starship's "Jane". Have a listen.

And they sue George Harrison for My Sweet Lord (He's So Fine)  ?Tongue Tied

Come on pretty baby put your party dress on.
Come on won't ya rockit with me all night long.

I think both songs were released within less then a year of each other and Aldo Nova had the demo's for quite some time so probably coincidental. Jane is a killer tune though imo.
