    Re: April Wine

I think April Wine has some videos up on their site, I know that there's one for Sign of the Gypsy Queen and I Like To Rock, I cant remember the other two, and they released a new album not long ago as well, there's some streaming audio of it, along with songs like Before the Dawn(live) which is an amazing song

figured I'd post this for all you April Wine fans out there

    Re: April Wine

I also heard them for the first time, in 81, with Just Between You and Me.   I hate to admit it, but I always found that to be a very emotional song, it would actually bring tears to my eyes.  At least as a sappy 15 year old, lol. (yes, that makes me 40 now! :))  I also liked the Beast album...  it's the only one of theirs I've listened to all the way through.  Their cover of Sign of the Gypsy Queen kicks ass!!   Great riffs, nice solo from Greenway. As a guy who was mostly into bands with one guitarist, it was interesting to hear the three guitar arrangements.  The liner notes listed who the soloist(s) was, so you could get a feel how each of them played.

Don't look back in anger, don't look ahead in fear. You just keep takin' her as she comes, until she comes in clear. The love you send out, returns to you in time.

I just heard Weeping Widow last night, that song rocks!...if you listen to the song Animal by Nickelback...it sounds like the sorta ripped it off a bit with the riff inbetween words...I'm sure a lot of songs have been done like that but it really sound similar(I only know that song because they play it on the radio)

Thanks to all who recommended AW. I got Electric Jewels and am glad I did. Very good album! And it holds up well over time, from the songwriting standpoint. Interesting that Terry Brown was the recording engineer, a year or so before he got involved with Rush. In fact, I'd say Electric Jewels is a more enjoyable listen than the first few Rush albums. Or the first couple Triumph albums. Am I allowed to say that?

    Next up...Stand Back.

You might be thinking of Slow Poke, knetzke.

Don't Push Me Around is another good one on Stand Back.

    Re: April Wine

I'm surprised by that, but I believe you...

Been years since I heard it, but I'd always thought the voice on Slow Poke was too deep to be Myles. The cassette I had didn't have any liner notes on the inside, IIRC. Thanks for clearing that up, knetzke.

    Re: April Wine

yeah I was surprised too, kept looking at the liner notes to see if I was seeing things right, I always just figured that Myles sang lead vocals on everything...guess not, Oowatanite is a sweet tune too-one of their concert favorites isnt it? another reason I was surprised Myles didnt handle vocal duties on that one

    Re: April Wine

Yeah oowatanite's always a crowd-pleaser. A few years ago I was driving around and that song came the radio, I cranked the volume. A couple of teenage guys were walking on a crosswalk in front of me and one of them turned, smiled, and gave me the thumbs up. I turned down the radio and he yelled "that's a good song!" or something like that.

I think it's cool when the young kids are listening to the stuff I liked to when I was their age. I'll be 40 in a couple of months, and have a bit of grey hair... I wonder what people think when I've got the stereo blasting hard rock... lol...

That doesnt sound good!  I hope Myles is doing all right, he's one of my favorite Singers/Songwriter/Guitarists...great voice!

    Re: April Wine

I was supposed to go see April Wine tomorrow (Friday) here in Brampton, Ontario at a bar. They are now rescheduling the show in February. The Paul James Band, who were supposed to open for them are still going to be playing Friday, which the ticket is still valid for as well as the rescheduled show. April Wine are a class act, most bands would just say to hell with it and cancel the show all together. Hope Myles is doing well...he's about as underrated as Rik!!!
