    Re: Just Curious

well as I've posted before Rik was the reason I got a guitar(shame on me I still havent really learned how to play yet), but I think the other guy that has given me more ambition is Glenn Tipton because he didnt start playing guitar until he was 21!! I kinda always thought I started too late but...guess not, even though I think Glenn had a background with piano and I'm sure that helped his fretting hand a lot when it came time to pick up a guitar and I'm sure it helped with composition
Can't you feel the magic, feel it everywhere, Can't you hear the music, there's something in the air, There's a celebration, deep within a song, Celebrate this feeling, you know it can't be wrong

Rik is one of my favorite guitarists.  However, I don't know that any guitarist has had a great influence on my playing.  Then again, maybe that's my problem!

I did not start on guitar, so I approach it a little different than many people.  Sometimes that is a good thing.  Others, not so good.

    Regardless, Rik RAWKS!!!!!!

did you start on piano? just curious-I know a lot of great guitarists started out on piano first(i.e. Shawn Lane, Michael Angelo, Glenn Tipton(I think he did))

No, I did not start on piano.  Maybe that's my problem.;)

I actually started on drums, played trumpet for 6 years, took a year of piano lessons along the way (waste of time), took a piano class in college (invaluable), switched to guitar after I got married.  Strummed and sang for 15 years or so, bought LesStrat, then gradually developed some electric skills.

have you ever listened to Shawn Lane? that guy was amazing, why does it seem like some of the great players are taken from us all too soon?  Becker has ALS and can't play but still composes, and Shawn died a while back...its a shame

Some.  I've gotten away from listening to instrumental music for the most part.
