Dear Rik, Gil & Mike,
It's great for you to be raising money for Diabetes & Diabetes research. My wife, who is only 36 years old, has been living with this disease for years now. She has been Type 2 for years & is now bordering on becoming Type 1.
I cant tell you the long term side effects from this which has affected her liver, kidneys, heart & nervous system. This includes mood swings, no energy & all kinds of body pains.
Her number of different pills has increased to where I had to take control of them so she would not get mixed up & either forget a dose or accidentally double a dose. If she dosent stay on schedule with these pills she can quickly end up in ER in a matter of a few days with various symptoms & complications.
Beleive me, the financial toll from these meds can devestate your household. Some of them are very expensive for the common working household.
Maybe the most difficult part is having to continue to work & not get enough rest that she needs at times with all these medications.
Also, Diabetes does seem to run in families & DNA that is pre-disposed to it's effects. Special diets & regular excercise can help along the way but doesnt cure this disease.
In conclusion, I can testify, from my household feeling the effects of Diabetes, that any help in cures, price reductions on Diabetic medications & any new research will benefit anyone who suffers from the long term effects of this disease.

Dear Rik, Gil & Mike,
It is great to see that you have reunited, and that you are using your popularity and music to bring attention to Diabetes. My wife and I have three wonderful children, ages 14, 11, and 7. Our 11-year old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 7, and now uses an insulin pump and up to 12 fingersticks a day to maintain tight control of her blood sugar. She has been an inspiration to our family, as she is a straight A student and an outstanding athlete, playing both tournament fastpitch softball and basketball. We (collectively) look forward to further medical advances that will either correct her condition, or make her diabetes less of a distraction. I use the term distraction because my daughter refuses to allow it to interfere with her life.
I recently pulled up a couple of your videos from the 80's that are out there on YouTube. My 14-year old son heard Magic Power once, and now is downloading your songs onto his IPOD. So, it appears that your music has a "favorable review" from the next generation - congratulations.
Thank you again for your support to this worthy cause.
