Dear Gil, Rik & Mike,
I grew up listening to you guys in the suburbs of Indianapolis, Indiana. I first bought "Just a Game" & watched & listened to this album go round & round on my turntable & never got tired of it. I always looked forward to your next album.
Glad you dont hate each other so much now. Remember only you 3 have the majic power of the music to give to the fans who have been waiting for 20 years.
I think of all the music you could have made together. Who knows what could have been in the last 20 years.
Pace yourselves this time. Dont kill yourselves on the road. Space the nights out. Have fun along the way. You guys have the potential to make a comeback as good as Rush, Kiss & many others have recently done. Stay positive. Remember you're all 3 brothers that have a long history together.
Note to Gil & Mike: "Edge of Excess" kicks ass from begginning to end. What great hard-rockin songs that one has. (sorry Rik)
Guys, dont forget about me & others fans in central Florida (Orlando & Tampa)
Therer are many venues around this area. Cant wait to see you play live here.
I've got a killer set list I posted on the other comment site about your reunion, but I will list it here again.
     1.  Intro only to "Fight the Good Fight"
     2.  "I live for the Weekend"- dont stop- go immediately to:
     3.   "Tear the Roof Off"- stop
     4.   "Lay It On the Line"- dont stop- go immediately to:
     5.   "Never Surrender"- stop.
     6.   "When the Lights Go Down"- stop
     7.    Rik comes out to do accoustical "Fantasy Serenade", followed by Gil who
comes out to join Rik to do accoustical begginning to "I Can Survive". Gil
            returns & full band finishes:
      8.  "I Can Survive"- electric.- stop.
      9.   "Follow Your Heart" (short drum solo in the middle)- dont stop- go
            immediately to:
     10.  "Rock & Roll Machine" (short guitar solo in the middle) - stop.
     11.  Intro & "Fight the Good Fight" - stop
    Encore:
      12. thanks to fans and "Majic Power"- dont stop- go immediately to:
      13. "Hot time(In this City Tonight)"

Note: I didnt include "Allied Forces". Not sure about this one. Should we? Also, I love the songs on "Edge of Excess" but didnt include them cause Rik wasnt involved on this one. (Rats)

Sincerely, Jon in Ocala, Florida

i've loved triumph since i first discovered there was more than one three-man rock band from toronto back when i was a sophomore in high school in... what.. 1982? anyway, here is my fantasy set list, and it stops at "thunder seven." even though there are a few songs on the next two abums that i like, i really have to pick and choose... and i won't even mention the last album with rik on it. whew... what a stinker.... i guess i just mentioned it... anyway...

FANTASY SET LIST (in no particular order)

magic power
fight the good fight
lay it on the line
ordinary man (by far my favourite triumph song of all time)
rock and roll machine (with long guitar solo, of course)
when the lights go down (the best song gil ever sang)
time canon / time goes by
killing time (love the duet singing)
little boy blues
rocky mountain way (gotta throw the drummer some bones!)
never surrender
suitcase blues (second favourite triumph song ever... SHUT UP!)

god... there are so many i could list... but these are the ones i REALLY want to hear that they have a good chance of playing... god, i really hope they rock "ordinary man." that would really make my freaking weekend. i got a one-day pass for ROCKLAHOMA just for triumph, and i am getting a freaking t-shirt...

Dear Rik, Gil & Mike,
I wanted to give you a short perspective of what it was like growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana & first hearing you guys on the radio.
1979- I first heard "Hold On" & "Lay it On the Line"- actually these songs got fairly regular airplay along with an advertisement saying: Triumph is an unadultarated, positive new band with an exciting new album.
1980- I think Indianapolis radio stations played "I Live For the Weekend" & "I Can Survive"- the second song more often for at least 6 months.
1981- As I was exiting high school- "Majic Power" at one point was being played once every hour or two. "Fight the Good Fight" followed but not as much airplay as the first.
1983- After buying "Never Surrender"- I thought this record had a great production sound to it. Radio played "A World of Fantasy". "When the Lights Go Down" was played a few times.
1984-1985- I remember hearing "Spellbound" a few times. I dont remember hearing "Follow Your Heart" at all on radio, even though I liked this song.
1986- "Somebody's Out There" got fairly regular airplay along with "Tears in the Rain" a few times.
1987-1988- All I heard on the radio involving the "Surveillance" album was an radio station interview Rik was doing where he was going to do an accoustical version of one of the songs and had to use an unfamiliar guitar.
It seemed as the 80's came to a close, hair metal bands ruled the day & the airwaves. I remember on the documentary of the 1987 Sport of Kings tour where Rik is riding in the car & tells the driver that he's getting burned-out with touring & is ready for a break.
I figured Triumph, as the band I knew would probably disappear for a while.
It's good to see them back together.

Sincerely, Jon

Dear Rik, Gil & Mike,
I wanted to tell you that the US Festival performance is one of your best. I really dont get tired of seeing it. I first saw it in the mid 80's on VHS & recently on DVD. If you had to wing this show on the fly withour your normal equipment & barely arrived in time, all I can say is that it dosent show. Wow! 100 degrees with full sun. A person must have had to have been in good shape for that situation, even in the shaded area on stage. Rik is impressive playing his double-neck guitar.
Does my memory serve me right? Didnt Quiet Riot open that show???
Again, I suggest everyone interested in this band go out today and buy the DVD's- "Live at the US Festival" & "A Night of Triumph Live".
These will give you an idea what you're in for at they're live shows!
I read one comment from a fan in Sao Paulo, Brazil, asking if the the band will play there. Maybe they will for the fun of it. Rush recently went down there and played to a packed stadium in the rain. They made a big splash. Triumph could do the same I'm sure. Seems fans in South America are hungry for North American & European bands not to forget them.

i completly agree TRIUMPH is THE BEST underrated canadian band that ever was in my humble estimation.they are the best even better then that other trio in canada i think you all know who im talking about.the one night of dvd rocks its the best music concert dvd of all time, regardless of the fact that half of gil's vocals seem to be over dubbed and rik's guitar solo what cut in half.the music is so much in your face and the music is awsome what live concert should sound like the addition of that other guy rick santers makes the music that much better i like the way rik emmett snubbed rick santers at the beginning of lay it on the line)anyway rock out and roll on guys your the best.

You're right, Jerry, Triumph is the best underrated canadian band ever & I do know the name of the other trio band youre talking about. ( R -  U  -  S  -  ?)
Dont get me wrong, I've listened & bought that other trio's music over the years & they have always got tons of radio airplay. they can always fill an arena here in Florida & put on a descent show. THe one thing about them is how progressive or introspective theyre music & lyrics can become.
What I've always liked better about Triumph, in my humble opinion, was that they wrote better rocking songs with a "Raise-your-guitars-up-around-the-world" & "We're-here-to-spread-the-majic-power" attitude on theyre albums. Also, theyre live shows could be compared more to KISS with explosions, smoke, etc. They do want to give people a good show to highlight the songs.
Rik is probably one of the best underrated guitarist's, He can mix rock & classical & still keep it sounding like Triumph. Gil, too, is talented in being able to write, sing & play the songs live. Jerry's right, there is some dubbing on Gils vocals & drums on the "Night of Triumph- LIve". I dont remember hearing or seeing this on the original VHS copy from 20 years ago. I wonder if when they re-released it on DVD that some mixing of different show locations was going on?
Sincerely, Jon

thanx jon you yankees are all right.your right rush is a really good group and if it wern't for them leading the way for trio's triumph may not have gotten there shot.rush's lyrics seem to be too political sometimes and your also right triumph's live show is simply awsome way better than kiss.your also right about gil singing and playing drums at the same is some feat he also has a great voice and as for mike well i'll just leave it at that.in my humble opinion lol.the only song on one night of that gil's vocals are not over dubbed is rock and roll machine, still the dvd in a whole is simply amazing,in my humble estimation lol.your also right triumph sure knowa how to put on a hell of a show

Hey Jerry, this is Jon, in the land of the southern YANK-EES (whatever that is? I need to google this term & remind myself again what it means. Perhaps someone in the past gave a "Yank" to a "Crank"?(this doesnt make sense)
Anyway's, since you mentioned MIke Levine, have you wondered what it would have sounded like if Mike had sung at least one song on each Triumph album? Kinda like what Roger Taylor did on each successive Queen album?
None of us would know what to do if we didnt see & hear Mike Levine step up to the mic & say: "TRIUMPH  LOVES  YOU"!!! This was a concert staple.
Since I dont really post messages on websites very much, does "lol" mean "Lots of Love"???? If it does, I feel all warm inside. If not, do I want to know?

Another date added gives more hope to see Triumph in or near Montreal, Canada.  By the way, we have a rock fest coming up this summer called HEAVY MTL, which will include Iron Maiden and Motley Crue, among others. Why not join in?  I'd be in the first row.  I'm a fan since 1988-89, so I never had a chance to see Triumph live.

In my humble opinion, I am glad to hear that this huge Canadian Icon of rock has reformed to give us what we have missed for years.  Rick has had some amazing solo work that Ive seen live several times and truly loved.  This group got out on stage and performed 100 percent every night they played with some of the best S & L ever.  They are one of the top in Canadian rock and have added a great legacy for future Canadian artists as well as the past.  Canadian mucians have alot to be proud of because Canadian classic rock is among the best in the world.  We would love to see you in Western Canada as well where you are not ever forgotten.  Triumph still recieves alot of airtime here.  To close, I would like to wish the boys the best of luck and we hope to see you soon.
